Theme of the Month: “Wedding Forever & Ever”

TREND

You’ll want to do your big day your own way, of course, but here’s what the trend forecasters are saying about 2016: wedding looks are going softer, with a “home-style” vibe and a mix of modern and vintage. Think natural-looking bouquets and decorative touches made from succulent seasonal flowers, with subtle crystal shimmer and sparkle, and a little boho glamour. Pantone’s Colors of the Year are blush pink “Rose Quartz” and periwinkle blue “Serenity”, so expect to see these delicate tones on bridal palettes. Don’t be afraid to experiment with floral detailing—the runways showed plenty of floral accents on dresses and accessories, both printed and appliquéd for a 3D effect.
When it comes to framing your face, choose a pair of breathtaking statement crystal earrings in shades of cream and ivory. Draw attention to elegant hands with a crystal-embellished clutch clasped in fingers tipped with dainty nail art. And keep your memories fresh in a beautiful photo album with a cover decorated with Swarovski crystals. These are modern heirlooms, so once you’ve enjoyed your own wedding day, they’re sure to make an appearance at the marriage celebrations of future generations of your family.

TECHNIQUES

Ironing: Swarovski’s smart Hotfix technology makes it dead easy to apply crystals with an ordinary iron—but make sure it has no steam holes, or the water vapor will spoil the result! Once it’s heated, the glue on the reverse of the crystals binds to the surface of the fabric. Flat Backs Hotfix and Transfers are really well suited to this: Put your item on a flat surface, then set your iron to a moderate 120ºC–170ºC / 250ºC–340ºF, or between one and two points, or the silk/wool setting. Tuck in a piece of thick paper to protect it from indentation marks caused by pressing down on the crystals. Next, turn the item inside out, and press the iron directly onto the transfer without moving it. Let it cool and then carefully remove the transfer paper.
Sewing: Sewing is really quick and easy, and Swarovski crystals can be attached to a whole variety of materials, either by hand or by using a standard sewing machine.
