Theme of the Month: “Forever Black”

Our love affair with the dark side continues this fall/winter, and it’s easy to see why. Edgy, sexy, and full of mystery and drama, black flatters the figure, suits literally every occasion from super-casual to red carpet, and says “I’m powerful, so don’t mess with me.” In fact, the famous Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto, called it “modest and arrogant at the same time.” It’s also the easiest, chicest, most foolproof way to dress—you never have to worry about clashing or matching, and it gives give a girly outfit a touch of confident-looking gravitas. As for black leather—it’s always cool. What’s more, black layers up beautifully when you mix different fabrics and textures, like velvet, brocade and lace. Best of all, it allows you to go wild with jewelry and accessories. As Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family said: “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker color.”

Sewing: If you can thread a needle, then the rest is super-easy. What’s more, sewing allows you to create an individual look want that makes you stand out from the crowd. Just choose your Swarovski crystals and sew them onto any material you like—fabric, leather, whatever—either by hand or standard sewing machine.
