Theme of the Month: “February Launch”

TREND

Centuries before Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards wore skull rings on every finger, the skull was a symbol of power. Then it appeared in jewelry as a memento mori ("remember you must die")—not very cheerful, but no one cared because skulls were cool in the 15th century. It became all the rage again in the late 1800s, when Queen Victoria incorporated it in her memorial jewelry following the death of her husband. Thanks to rock star royalty, skulls made it back into fashion in the mid-60s, and we’re so in love with this iconic motif that Swarovski’s Spring/Summer 2018 assortment includes a stunning Skull Flat Back crystal. Use it in rebellious, street-chic “Don’t mess with me” jewelry designs, or to give a pretty piece made with softly gleaming Crystal Iridescent Blue pearls an unexpected rock-‘n’-roll edge. Add a touch of flashing Northern Lights to your handiwork with crystals in the new multicolored Shimmer Effect: originally inspired by the world of dance, they create a shimmer that moves when you move. And for edginess of a different, more futuristic, kind, choose some sculptural, 2.5-dimensional Tilt crystals from SS18’s new Illusion Designer Edition. It’s a new kind of urban statement—eclectic, individual and strong.
