Trend of the Month: "Prairie Pretty"
Get ready to release your inner frontier woman, because your wardrobe is about to acquire a touch of the Wild West. It’s the big look right now, pioneered by a raft of designers like Chloé, Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, Isabel Marant, and many others who have riffed on the romance of the American West for their runway shows. Each of their collections focuses on the strong and capable independence that reflects how women see themselves now—we’re talking empowerment!
So saddle up and get with the prairie look—fringed jackets, tightly cinched belts, and Native American-inspired earrings and necklaces studded with turquoise will tell the world you’re a sassy, savvy kinda gal. Wild horses couldn’t keep us away from this one.
Sewing (jacket, belt & earrings)
All you need is a needle and thread, and then simply apply your Swarovski crystals by hand.
Seed beading (necklace)
The only difference between standard-beading and seed-beading techniques is the size of the beads. Here, you’ll use tiny beads, which you thread onto cord in the same way (see below).
Using the simplest beading technique, thread beads onto cord secured at each end with crimp beads.
Gluing & wiring (necklace & earrings)
Make sure the surface onto which you’re gluing is clean and free of greasy marks; then use tweezers to position the crystals, carefully wiping away excess glue with a soft cloth. Create strings of beads using pliers and a basic wiring technique.
The Create Your Style Trend & Design team created the designs inspired by this month’s "Prairie Pretty" theme. As usual, they come with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. Each week we’ll come up with a new design, so stay tuned.
